Circus, Circus is a great choice for a family vacation in Las Vegas. The facility is comprised of three towers with a connecting sky shuttle, viewed by most children as the first attraction. The Adventuredome inside the complex is the world�s largest indoor theme park, and a perfect destination for some fun with the children. Circus themed shows and wandering performers abound, and everyone will enjoy the miniature golf, bungee jumping and choice of over 200 carnival games. Of course, parents will enjoy the 100,000 square foot casino and great restaurants.

Another family oriented property in Las Vegas is the Excalibur. Designed to replicate King Arthur�s Camelot home, Excalibur gives children and experience similar to walking into a fairy tale. Families walk across the moat to enter the property, and every detail is charming. The first floor of the hotel is designed especially for kids, full of carnival games and arcades and themed entertainment. The large pool areas feature a waterfall and several waterslides, and a popular dinner attraction is the Tournament of Kings, a show with dragons, jousting, wizards and great food. The large, themed casino is a treat for parents, as are the other great restaurants on property.

Another exciting family hotel is the Luxor, an Egyptian Pyramid set down in Las Vegas. This great hotel is actually larger than the pyramids in Egypt and is guarded by an authentically styled Sphinx. The kids will enjoy the two story video arcade and IMAX theater. All of the rooms have sloped walls, inviting a geometry lesson, and furniture decorated with Egyptian symbols. Kids love exploring a recreation of King Tut�s Tomb and the accompanying museum, said to be quite authentic. There are five pools on site and a motion simulator ride with an Egyptian theme. Of course, a spacious casino and several spas join world class restaurants for the parents to enjoy.

If you�re traveling with younger children and need a little �alone� time, consider the Orleans Hotel. Las Vegas is known for its casinos, wild nightlife, gambling, girls and shows; but the greater Las Vegas area offers much more. From hiking, biking and horseback riding to amazing Nevada National Parks, lakes and canyons, the Las Vegas area is a recreational playground. Red Rock Canyon

Only 20 miles from downtown Las Vegas, the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area covers nearly 200,000 acres of multicolored sandstone and limestone, canyons, mountains, washes and waterfalls, a variety of desert flora and fauna, and wildlife, including bobcats, desert bighorn sheep and wild burros. I don't know how "wild" the burros actually are though. While hiking, biking, rock climbing and seasonal camping is offered, the most popular choice is the 13-mile scenic drive through the park. Whether you spend the afternoon or weekend, Red Rock Canyon offers up natural scenic beauty and is worth the visit.

Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam

Lake Mead is the perfect place to cool off from the summer heat. Located 25 miles east of Vegas, the Lake Mead National Recreation Area has about 1.5 million acres of desert land and clear water, with 550 miles of shoreline for swimming, boating, sunbathing, water skiing and fishing. Other activities include hiking, camping, horseback riding, roadside sightseeing and wildlife photography. Lake Mead wildlife include bighorn sheep, mule deer, coyotes, kit foxes, bobcats, ringtail cats, jack rabbits and the endangered desert tortoise and peregrine falcons. The amazing Hoover Dam is also nearby with daily tours.

Valley of Fire

Located only six miles from Lake Mead and 55 miles from Las Vegas, the Valley of Fire is Nevada's first state park and its largest. This Nevada National Park is named for its fiery sandstone formations of reds, purples, tans, whites, oranges and yellows, which were formed from shifting sand dunes, years of erosion, wind and climate. Although the geology is similar to Red Rock, the park also offers early Native American culture and their rock art and petroglyphs are found throughout the area. The area was frequently visited by the ancient Basket Makers and Anasazi, who used the area for hunting and religious ceremonies. A popular scenic drive is around the "White Domes." For recreational activities there is climbing, picnicking, camping and rock scrambling.

Mount Charleston

Get away from the slots and visit Mt. Charleston for fresh air, amazing views and majestic mountain scenery and wildlife. Only 35 miles from Vegas, Mt. Charleston Recreation Area is a welcome relief from not only the city bustle, but the stifling desert heat during the summer. At an elevation of 11,918 feet, Mount Charleston is the third highest peak in Nevada. The recreation area offers 180 campsites, 150 picnic sites, hiking, biking, picnicking, horseback riding, skiing and snowboarding.

Zion and Bryce Canyons

If you're feeling a bit adventurous, cross the border to Utah and visit Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park.
Zion has everything from amazing river carved canyons to scenic waterfalls. The area also has amazing wildlife consisting of 75 mammal species, including mountain lions and mule deer to hundreds of bird varieties and 32 reptiles and amphibians. An hour further away from the 2 ? hour drive to Zion, Bryce Canyon is a geologic wonder of colorful limestone, with thousands of arches, spires and mazes. Don't miss the Grand Staircase, which is a series of colored sandstone cliffs, stretching from Bryce Canyons to the Grand Canyon.

Grand Canyon

Depending on which rim of the Grand Canyon you venture to, it will be a good day's drive from Las Vegas, but well worth the visit. Carved over millennia through the rocks of the Colorado Plateau, the Grand Canyon never ceases to be awe- inspiring, with its beauty and size. If the scenic views aren't enough, there's hiking, backpacking, biking, bird watching, boating, camping, cross country skiing, fishing, horseback riding, nature walks and more.

Las Vegas is one of the sunniest cities in the United States -- with an average 320 days of sunshine per year and only 4.19 inches of rainfall. The winters in Las Vegas are like no other. Many of us do not pack away our shorts because we can wear them year round.

Las Vegas has been the fastest growing city for over a decade now. It all started in 1993 with the opening of three mega-resorts: MGM Grand, Treasure Island, and Luxor. For ten years, an average of 4,000-6,000 new residents moved here each month. In December 2003, ten years later, over 8,000 new driver's licenses were issued.

Just as the people that live in Las Vegas are very diverse, so is the choice of where to live. People that are not from Las Vegas seem to believe that we all live on "The Strip." Nothing is further from reality. The most popular areas to live, such as Green Valley, Southern Highlands, Anthem, and Summerlin are suburbs nowhere near The Strip. Southwest and Northwest Las Vegas are growing at astronomical rates and, literally, housing cannot be built fast enough to handle our growth.

Housing

Approximately 34% of the households in Las Vegas are rentals. You will find an abundance of rental options throughout Las Vegas, ranging from apartments and condominiums to exclusive corporate housing to single-family homes. The average apartment rent (for all apartments) is $738 with a vacancy rate of less than 5%. Apartments offer some of the best lifestyles to Nevada residents. Apartments in Nevada are different than most states. They are new, larger than most and offer all of the amenities that newer housing communities offer. Many of the newer communities offer 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units, with or without garages.

Las Vegas real estate is still reasonable. It has increased substantially over the past year, but continues to offer some of the most affordable housing in the country. Our diversity in housing choices allow you to choose from town houses to condominiums, gated living to planned communities, high rises to manufactured homes.The quality of life in Las Vegas is generally better than in most areas. Las Vegas offers top-notch exercise facilities, excellent restaurants, the advantages of any other city, plus much more. The average homeowner is 22 years old, so there is plenty of opportunity to advance in your career.

Wages

Nevada ranks in the upper 25 percentile of wages offered throughout the United States. This coupled with our low cost of living makes Nevada very attractable to all professionals. Some media outlets have talked about the lower level of education in Las Vegas, but our average median income continues to topple most major markets.

Working in Las Vegas

Casinos are no longer just gaming; they are entertainment, dining, retail and hospitality. It also is home to many financial institutions such as Citibank, Household Credit Services and First Bank of Marin. Technology companies have recently discovered the benefits of relocating to Nevada, as the infrastructure is new, reliable, and expandable so our technology sector has experienced substantial growth. Healthcare, education, and professional services have maintained a rapid level of growth just to keep up with the booming population.

Las Vegas has nearly 600 churches, temples, and synagogues representing more than 63 faiths.

Public Transportation has also become a priority. A monorail system launched operations in July 2004.

Looking at those great big theme hotels on the Las Vegas Strip can cause a fair amount of sighs. This is because many people assume that they cannot get reasonably priced accommodations in these hotels. The truth, however, is that it is more than possible to find good deals on hotel accommodations on the Strip. And not just those smaller, seedier hotels that are, quite frankly, scary. This is about finding accommodation deals in the nice big hotels.

The best way to go about it is to look for Internet specials where you will find some great deals on the Las Vegas Strip hotels. You may find reasonable deals in places like Expedia and Orbitz when you book a flight at the same time, or book a rental car. However, if you are only looking for a room they may not have the best Internet specials.

If you are looking to just book a hotel room at one of the themed Las Vegas Strip hotels, check the hotel Web sites for accommodations. Often, the hotels on the Strip offer their own special deals. Some hotels, like the Excalibur, even guarantee that they will beat any other advertised price, and offer to refund the difference if you get a better rate someplace else.

Go during the week. Las Vegas is full of great deals if you stay Sunday through Thursday nights. Instead of going to Las Vegas for the weekend, book for a stay during the week. The nightly room rates are lower, and some hotels even offer additional discounts for shows with your booking during the week.

Stay at hotels considered "family friendly." Sure, the Bellagio and the Venetian are nice, but they also cost quite a bit. Hotels like the Mirage, Excalibur, and Circus tout a family setting. They cost a little less, and you can still go and enjoy the flower garden at the Bellagio or take a ride on a gondola at the Venetian.

Plan a trip with friends. Even if you want a romantic getaway and don't want to actually do things with a group, it can be a great saving if you book rooms together with two or three other couples. Hotels offer you amazing multiple room rates if you can book as a group. So, for some wonderful discounts, try booking multiple rooms for two or three weeknights, on the Internet!

Above all, watch out for conventions, which are a regular feature in Las Vegas. No matter when you go you are sure to find some convention or the other going on in Las Vegas. Since space is at a premium during conventions, hotels charge exorbitant rates. Just make sure that the hotel you stay at is not hosting a convention at the time of your visit. Thus, it important to check the hotels? convention schedule at the time of booking. If possible, choose a hotel without a convention, and try to plan your stay at a particular hotel when there is no convention.

If you are willing to do some intelligent searching for the best price, you will find it easy to find a great accommodation deal on the Las Vegas Strip. Select your hotel and time your trip carefully to save on the room rates. You can have a great time in Las Vegas even on a budget!
